Digital Rights Management: Respecting the Artist.

Why disintermediation failed and how the pirate and the file sharer cripples the Indy and reduces market choice.

Digital Rights Management (DRM) enforces respect for the artist. Disintermediation failed because it is our nature to try and profit off of something when we can or to take things for free if we can get them. After all, why spend the money if you don’t have to. Pirates and file sharers help to cripple music, movie, and other industries and reduces market choice by taking profit away from the artist, the actor, and the corporations. It takes money, time, and effort to produce any art form. The idea is that people will buy it and those who put in that money, time, and effort will be reimbursed. However, illegal file sharing undermines that system. DRM redresses the balance by taking the control out of the pirates hands and giving it back to the industries, where it belongs.
